Labels are perhaps the most versatile of all presentation components. In addition to their conventional role of displaying static text, or an image, or both within a single presentation context, labels can also be used to render cells in a table, or to provide the background image for a component.

A label is represented by the label element type, which supports a rich collection of attributes to finely control the appearance of the label.

Labels can support arbitrarily large images through their icon attribute. Also, depending on the security privileges granted to your application, a label can load images from anywhere on the World-Wide Web.
